Putting Your Money Where Your Poetry Is

If you're going to pay the $3 here, $23 there (Narrative Magazine) to submit your poems, you need to believe in them enough to gamble with that cash.

Actually, first you have to have the funds to begin with.

For me, it's a question of applying a little of the gas money I'm saving by sheltering in place toward establishing myself in the literary world. Where I can, I'm paying for a subscription to the journals in question to support them as well.

I also plan to purchase two or three new poetry books in the next few days - to read what I know will be excellent poems, to support the literary marketplace, and because it'll be so exciting to have a delivery to look forward to right now. Yes, folks, poetry is an essential purchase.
