The Sealey Challenge, Day Six: And Short the Season by Maxine Kumin

I've heard of Maxine Kumin, of course. But I don't think I've ever read any of her collections - not even the Pulitzer Prize winning Up Country from 1973. In a 1997 interview, she says that writing "light verse" taught her how to use form. She certainly understands form, and uses rhyme and enjambment masterfully.

She also said in that interview, "You know, writing poetry is a game, really. It's an indoor sport." Ok. Why not play, then? And play well, too.
