News and News

So much has happened since my last post, but here are the highlights:

I started 2017 appropriately at a New Years Day Poetry party hosted by local poet Laureate, Terry Ehret. While I admit that I typically feel daunted by the prospect of social gatherings, I always enjoy catching up with local poets at this traditional celebration. This year, given the political climate, there was a lot of serious and heart-felt poetry shared, and I think many of us felt especially grateful for a community in which to share it.

Three weeks later, I completed my studies in Pacific University's MFA program and gave my graduate presentation; a critical introduction and a reading from the body of creative work I've produced in the last two years. I am so grateful for my time at Pacific. The faculty, staff and fellow students are all phenomenally wise, generous and talented, and I was blessed to have been able to be a part of the program.

I have also been pursuing a job change that will give me more time and energy for writing, and it looks as though that will become official by the end of March. Early mornings free! and psychic and creative energy left over, and excellent access to books! More details to follow, once everything is official at both the current and the new job.

And here's one more thing for which to be grateful, and which I realize falls into the category of shameless self-promotion: Finishing Line Press had named me the Poet of the Day, which means they're plugging me in social media. How nice! I appreciate the support so much, especially coming as it does on a day that I had already dedicated to writing. It feels like positive reinforcement from the universe for prioritizing in this way.
