I keep finding new poets that represent holes in my education and whose work blows me away.
Today's "discovery" is Eleanor Wilner. Holey Moley. I have only read a few of her poems so far but I am floored by them. What she does with image, and movement, and internal rhyme, and meter, and metaphor. It's all there. I'm especially in love with her sound linking. I have a new ["if only I could write like that!"] hero. I hope to study her in more depth to learn from her. I am fan-girling hard, as they might say.
Two other recent favorites are Gabriela Mistral (best read in the original Spanish, if I can) and the amazaing Traci Brimhall. Wow. Brimhall is so very, very good. Again, worth close study to unpack what she's doing and how she does it. As if I could dissect a poem and reverse engineer my own creation, when really I'd end up with body parts everywhere and missing bits rolling under the table.
