Natasha Trethewey, former US Poet Laureate and Pulitzer Prize Winner, tells amazing stories (both personal and historical), and she does so with mastery and a kind of ferocity and tenderness. This particular book was a quick read for me - I didn't want to put it down, and even though the poems are heavy, I didn't want them to end. She's my age. But how different our lives have been from one another!
