Edit or Bust

I have been spending at least two hours every evening for several weeks editing poems before sending them out. It's gratifying but time-consuming, and it's possible for me to sink myself into the work so thoroughly that here we are at 10:45pm before I know it.

But it does feel as though I'm upping my game, pushing and pushing for lines that do more, say more, mean more (without being heavy-handed, I hope). It's a kind of tweaking and a kind of puttering, I suppose. But I'd rather think of it as perfecting a craft. That sounds so much more professional. And I think it's true. Because to say "putter" is to belittle what's really happening, here. Yes. "Push" (or even "pull") is better than "putter."
