The Sealey Challenge, Day Seventeen: Headwaters by Ellen Bryant Voigt

I remember being impressed by Ellen Bryant Voigt's The Art of Syntax: Rhythm of Speech, Rhythm of Song when I read it for my MSA. I can see her mastery in syntax in this collection. I loved Headwaters. As I mentioned in a Twitter post (okay, yes, a tweet), so much momentum, carrying such deep thought and keen observation. This is one I borrowed from the library but will purchase when I'm able.


I can't even find a set of lines to quote here, because of the marvelous, punctuation-less enjambments and the fact that you need the whole poem to receive its impact. It creeps up on you, chilling and true
