The Other Good Thing About Submitting One's Work

Apart from the clear benefit of possibly having something published (name seen, poetry read, etc.), sending poetry to an editor or journal forces me to review it. It pushes me to read it again very carefully cut a bit more, revise, and improve as much as possible.

If I'm lucky, I've learned a few things between the time I wrote something and when I am submitting it. If I am giving the editor the respect he or she deserves, and the attention the work requires, everyone benefits. That's my end-of-day thought as I consider what I will send to whom in the next day or two.
