But a Woman Is

Today's prompt from napowrimo.net was to, "write a poem that argues against, or somehow questions, a proverb or saying."

I chose, No man is an island and wrote, "But a woman is." I think it will be fun to riff on that for a while. I can see now that if I treat prompts initially as games, as challenges, then what comes from them is joyful, even if it becomes something serious, and even if it ends up representing a lot of work. That playfulness seems to be a secret to producing content for me. I don't consider myself an especially creative person - or, to clarify, I am not driven to create the way those around me in my family are - but I can admit to taking pleasure from playing in this particular way.
