The Sealey Challenge, Day 8: The Anatomy of Descent by Mara Leigh Koslen

I worked with Mara at the central branch of the county library system for quite a while, and knew she was a poet who had been something of a spoken word prodigy, and that she had traveled to France and Israel as a result of her career. I also knew that she taught local classes. But I didn't realize the impressive extent of her intellect and, frankly, her vocabulary, until I read this book. She gave me the volume after coming to see me read at Aqus in June, and even then, she was so humble about it. The poems are sometimes more experimental (or is it intelligent?) than I feel I can grasp, but I admire the fire and the poet's mind and heart very much.
