When I decided to take on the Sealey Challenge this year, I knew this was the book I wanted to kick it all off with. I'm biased. Jamaica and I studied together at Pacific University, and for quite some time after graduating, we regularly read and critiqued one another's work as part of the "frustration of poets," a small group that still meets in one form or another weekly to share new work. But this collection is so powerful, so full of music and a sort of magical realism (as well as very real realism), I was blown away. Brava!
